As we indicate in the name of the blog, we’ll always try to realize things using lowtech, or what is the same using techniques and materials that could be obtained easily (at least most of the times).
In this occasion we are going to explain why it happens and how to solve the already sadly famous 3 red lights of the Xbox 360 (RROD) that give themselves the code 0102 that it is a failure with the GPU (unit of graphical processing)
This failure takes place, in practically 100 % of the Xbox 360,the when it will happen, will depend only on the use of this one. It is due to a design rather weird in the system of ventilation of the spendthrift of the above mentioned console.
The problem resides in that the system of ventilation is deficient and in that the above mentioned system goes out simultaneously with the console, causing that the welds of the BGA are suffering constant sudden changes between heat and standby.
This generates what in the electronic slang is known as "cold weld " and the only way of settling it is revising each and every of the welds. But it’s obvious that checking the welds of a BGA is a problem, for the one that it(he,she) does not know because it is a problem ... the explanation is simple, a BGA does not have legs where to be able to weld, it’s integrated board that instead of legs has contacts and from factory it comes with a small amount of tin on every contact, place where you want to knit and apply heat using an infrared welder and simultaneously vanish part of the heat so that the BGA does not suffer hurts(damages), other of the methods of welding is to use a type of inert and not aggressive gas, which boiling-point is around 190ºC (in case of RoHS, that means welding without lead, since normal tin is composed 60 % tin and 40% lead, would be necessary to reach them 230ºC that is the bankrupt's point of the "pure" tin)

Well you will be thinking ... and can I do this in my house? Well if you have approximately 15000 Euros for an infrared welder (then I would why are you read this article xD) or if you have an old fryer that you do not use and possibility of obtaining Perfrouramin, a type of compound which boiling-point is at 200ºC) then yes, but we are going to show you an easier way that consists in that it is the proper BGA of the GPU the one that re-knits itself.
For this we have to take apart the Xbox, I am not going to make clear how it is done because there are thousands of manuals in the Internet on how this action is realized, nevertheless if people request it, I will make you a tutorial do not worry.

Once dismantled ... we will see the spendthrift of the CPU, the reader and the system of ventilation as can see in the following photography:

We remove the reader and under this one we will see the spendthrift of the GPU and the system of ventilation that goes from the ventilators up to the spendthrift, the action to realize for repairing the cold welds, is not other than to interpose a carton between the system of ventilation and the spendthrift of the GPU, achieving this way that the GPU warms up to re-welding the cold welds, but in a staggered way, controlling the temperature and removing the temperature of the CPU that we do not want that to overheat:

And certainly it is always recommendable to take the temperature of the spendthrift,do not do like in the photo of above and to take the temperature at a side ... you have to take it in the center of the GPU, for this, take as a reference point 4 screws that the anchorage and right in the center of these 4 screws should be the center of the BGA. control the temperature and when it comes around 90-100ºC the cold weld will have re-knited slightly, if you want to make sure that it’s weldes definitively, you will have to allow that the temperature rises more.
